Event Details

An "open space" conference hosted by Channel 4 and supported by the DfES Innovation Unit and HTI.

Over the course of the last 25 years Channel 4 has developed a reputation for delivering distinctive, original and challenging education programmes and digital media content.

Our goal has always been to champion the new and innovative over the tried and tested. We are proud of what we have achieved.

But times change....

The advent of new technologies has transformed not just how young people consume media content but how it is accessed, distributed and generated.

These developments are having a profound impact on our industry and on your profession. As broadcasters and teachers we face similar challenges: how to engage young people in a world being 'flattened' by technology and globalisation; how to prepare them for independence, responsibility and fulfillment in a rapidly changing world.

Channel 4 remains committed to education and innovation. We are continually harnessing emerging technologies to create fresh, compelling content. We still define and respond to the changing attitudes, cultures and lifestyles of each generation.

But we need to renew what we do and how we do it and we would like to engage you to help us.

We want to bring 150 teachers from across the UK into a big conversation with our staff and the production companies we work with about the future of Channel 4 Education.

How should Channel 4, as a public service braodcaster, assist teachers and engage students in future? How would you, as teachers, like to use our programmes and digital content? By talking and listening, we'll learn from each other and, hopefully, serve the educational needs of our young audiences better.

In addition to our meetings we will launch a website that will allow us to connect, converse, share ideas and collaborate not only with each other but with representatives of the TV and online production communities too.

We look forward to you joining us on the 5th October.
